Whitewashing Brick

Whitewashing brick is a great way to tone down the bright red brick accents on a fireplace.

Needed Materials

  • Hand taping off the trim of a brick fireplace with Green FrogTape Multi-Surface Painter's Tape

    Getting Started

Give the brick a good scrubbing and let it dry. Add 1 part paint to 3 parts water and stir until blended. Using FrogTape®, tape off areas to protect wood, floors and anything else you do not want to be whitewashed. Burnish the edges of the FrogTape using your thumbnail.

  • Paint brush whitewashing brick. The brick is taped off with Green FrogTape Multi-Surface Painter's Tape

Stir the watered down paint mixture frequently and carefully brush on the mixture moving horizontally. Have a rag handy for wiping up drips and splatters.

  • Whitewashed brick fireplace with white mantle. There is a small dog in front of the fireplace and a TV hung above the mantle.

    Remove Tape

Carefully remove the FrogTape® and let dry.
