A Patio Makeover with Mediterranean Flair
Sarah Beckler, from @thebecklerabode, adds character to her covered outdoor patio by painting a checkerboard floor and incorporating textured walls to create a Mediterranean-inspired oasis.
Kelsey Berry, the face of @the.berry.home, transforms a dull, cluttered office into a cozy, themed workspace with color-drenching, varied sheens and an argyle pattern.
Supplies Needed:
Paint the Base Coat
Paint a base coat for your argyle using the room color. This can be in a satin or semi-gloss sheen.
Create the Design
Using a diamond stencil as a guide, tape off your diamonds with FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painter’s Tape. Then, roll on a layer of the base color with a firm roller.
Adding Dimension
Also, using a firm roller, paint with a darker tone for the diamonds. Kelsey chose a color two shades darker than her color drench.
Creating the Pattern
While the paint is still wet, mark off your dash lines for one direction of the design with FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painter’s Tape. Using a cut kitchen sponge, make the dash lines. Kelsey recommends using a lighter tone. When finished, peel the tape.
Complete the Pattern
Repeat steps 5 & 6 for the other direction of the dashed lines.
Prep Woodwork
Apply FrogTape Advanced™ Painter's Tape to all the woodwork areas, like the trim, that you need to protect from paint.
Paint Woodwork
With a firm roller, brush on a satin or semigloss enamel paint on all woodwork.
Final Touches
To bring the room together, paint all remaining wall and ceiling surfaces with matte interior wall paint. Then, step back and admire your new space.
