Closet to Color-Drenched Office
Rebecca Propes, face of @rebeccadiy, turns a tiny space into a bold, color-drenched office, complete with crisp pinstripes and big personality.
Sarah Beckler, from @thebecklerabode, adds character to her covered outdoor patio by painting a checkerboard floor and incorporating textured walls to create a Mediterranean-inspired oasis.
Supplies Needed:
Clean & Prep
First, focus on prep. Sarah pressure-washed the floor and then applied concrete etcher. This will provide the best surface for paint to adhere to on the concrete patio.
Tape it Off
Sarah used FrogTape Advanced™ Painter's Tape to tape off the rough and uneven edges of the patio.
Paint the Base Color
Select a base color of your choosing. Then, paint two coats of the base color. Let it dry completely before moving to the next step.
Mark the Squares
Find the center of the space and snap off a chalk line. Then, use an 18 x 18 in tile and a drywall square to trace the full checkerboard pattern.
Tape the Pattern
Place FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painter’s Tape on the outside of every other square. It’s helpful to put a small piece of painter’s tape to mark each square you don’t need to paint. Use a straight edge and a utility knife to cut the excess tape where the points of the squares meet.
Add Paint
Paint a quick coat of the base color over the tape to seal it. Next, paint the checkerboard squares. Roll on two coats of the darker color in the taped-off squares.
Remove the Painter's Tape
To reveal the design, peel off the painter’s tape. It’s best to do this while the darker color is still slightly wet for crisp lines. Enjoy your beautiful checkerboard floor!
