Color block Paint Steps

  • Prepare the space - We like to start with a clean space! Start by moving furniture and cleaning any dust off trim with a cloth.
  • Paint the upper color and let dry -In our case the upper color was lighter so we painted the upper color first. Paint slightly past the intended color transition. We let the paint dry for 24 hours.
  • Mark level Lines - We decide to transition the color at 60” in height. Use a laser level or a 4’ level to make small pencil lines around the room.
  • Tape lines- place Frog Tape along level lines pressing firmly along the way.
  • Tape trim- place Frog Tape along areas of trim that are not being painted.
  • Paint the lower color- paint secondary color up to the frog tape being carefully not to go past the tape accidentally.
  • Remove tape and reveal- it’s best to remove the tape after the second coat of paint is applied and slightly wet.

FrogTape® Brand
Painter's Tape

FrogTape® is the only painter's tape treated with PaintBlock Technology. PaintBlock is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed.
