The hubs and I recently left Dallas and moved to the bustling metropolis of Fort Worth, where the temperatures are hot and the housing market is even hotter. We quit our jobs to pursue home renovation full time while Chayce finished his MBA and I began a second design degree on the side (this time in architecture). Along the way, one of the many things that we’ve learned through our 13 years of marriage and adventures is that life is too short not to do what you love—or at least not to attempt to do what you love. There are certain things in life that just come naturally to you and just feel right; you don't mind waking up early to pursue them and when you're doing them, you lose track of time. These are what we call our passions, gifting’s and talents, and when we are busy perfecting and cultivating them, we find true fulfillment and create some of our best work! For Chayce and I, we believe home renovation and designing creative spaces to be a big part of that, and it took us over a decade of life together to finally hone in on what drives us—to take something bland, forgettable, even disgusting and breathe life back into it to create, sometimes from the ground up, something entirely new, beautiful and lasting. It's kinda a good metaphor for life :)

Here at Blank Slate, we're into making things new again. This concept is what drives us in all of our creative endeavors, from Renovation and Design to Fashion and Travel—it's what we need and it's what we do.

Frog Tape 2020 PaintOver Challenge

The room we chose to “glow-up” was a space that’s often forgotten in the home—the hallway. Chayce and I firmly believe that any room can make a statement and wanted to prove this point with a little help from some of our favorite Frog Tape products. Keeping with the color palette of the rest of the home, we wanted to bring in a soft green to liven up the hallway. Painting the whole thing would just be too jarring, and painting only half of it would be too symmetrical; instead, we decided to get a little funky and paint two-thirds of the way up! Here’s how we did it:

  • 1) Prep space by laying Frog Tape drop clothes and taping off floor area; take your time!
  • 2) Use laser level to make a straight line and tape off accordingly.
  • 3) Frog Tape is incredible and has special adhesive to help get a perfect seal, but an additional hack you can use to get that crips line is by painting white primer onto the tape edge where you will be painting up to and allowing it dry before applying your color.
  • 4) We like to start by painting all the edges, doors and trim first with a smaller brush and roller, and then paint the remaining walls. Do at least two coats!
  • 5) After ample dry time, remove tape slowly and enjoy that feeling of perfection!

With the helpful tools and products provided by Frog Tape, this long and tedious project turned into a breeze. We’re never going back to those other tapes!

Painter's Tape

FrogTape® is the only painter's tape treated with PaintBlock Technology. PaintBlock is a super-absorbent polymer which reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, preventing paint bleed.
