FrogTape® Winners “Earn Their Stripes”
AVON, OHIO (July 13, 2011) – More than 50 creative contestants leaped into action for the FrogTape® brand painter’s tape “Earn Your Stripes” contest. A panel of judges chose the top three designs based on criteria of workmanship, originality and room accessories. “Cooked-up Kitchen” by Nora Firestone is the “Earn Your Stripes” grand prize winner of $5,000. The awards for second and third place went to “It’s a Movement” by Heather Flint and “Tessellation” by Elyas Beria, respectively.
The contest, which ran April 1 through June 30, 2011, asked homeowners across the United States and Canada to remodel a room and accessories, such as tables, frames and mirrors, with more than just a simple coat of paint. Contestants were challenged to use FrogTape and create stripes, checkers or other creative patterns to transform their spaces.
Firestone of Virginia Beach, Virginia, submitted before, during and after photos which showcased her “Cooked-up Kitchen.” The grand prize winner updated her 25-year-old cabinets by painting them white on top and a shade of brown on the bottom. She added a checkerboard pattern to create a faux backsplash using both FrogTape Multi-Surface and Delicate Surface painter’s tape. Firestone didn’t stop there; she also used coats of concrete primer on the countertops and even painted designs on kitchen accessories.
“Our first place winner literally did a complete room transformation,” said Kristin Bixler, media relations manager, ShurTech Brands, LLC. “She earned her stripes by using paint everywhere in her kitchen giving it a sleek, new updated look.”
The second place winner, Flint of Norfolk, Nebraska, is the recipient of $2,500. Instead of replacing carpet, this DIYer personalized her space by painting a chevron pattern on the floor of her bedroom and stripes on a decorative pillow. Beria won the $1,000 third-place prize for creating a unique accent wall with an intricate tessellated design in his Washington, D.C. home with help from a projector and FrogTape.
“FrogTape is the only painter’s tape treated with PaintBlock® Technology,” said Bixler. “PaintBlock is a superabsorbent polymer that reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to create a micro-barrier that prevents paint bleed. It helps to achieve crisp, clean paint lines.”
“We wanted to give DIYers the opportunity to showcase their imagination through a room transformation using simple tools such as FrogTape,” said Bixler. “We started the “Earn Your Stripes” contest to reward them for their creativity.”
