How to Paint a Lamp

It’s all too often that we come across our dream room design in home furnishing catalogs. The rooms where everything matches perfectly, from the end tables to the picture frames hanging on the wall. How do you achieve such a room? It’s nearly impossible to find complete room décor that matches everything. And when you do, it might cost you a fortune. The best way to get all the things in your room to match perfectly is by doing it yourself. But you don’t have to have the steady hand of an artist or the patience of a saint. With FrogTape® brand painter’s tape you can easily create and design the perfect look for your dream home furnishings. Try this project to see just how easy it is.

Tools and Supplies Needed
Lamp with glass or plastic shade
Scissors or razor blade
FrogTape brand painter's tape
Latex paint in desired colors
Pencil
Ruler
Paintbrush

Step 1 Be sure to wipe off the surface area of the lamp so that it is dry and free of dust.

Step 2 Starting with any side of the lamp, from the top left hand corner, measure downwards 3 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a small pencil mark around the corner of the lamp, so it's visible on both sides. This will be mark A.

Step 3 From the bottom right hand corner of the lamp, measure upward 2.5 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a small pencil mark. This will be mark B.

Step 4 From the bottom right hand corner, again measure upward, this time about 5.5 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a small pencil mark. This will be mark C.

Step 5 Rotate the lamp clockwise so that the next side of the lamp is facing you.

Step 6 From the bottom right hand corner of the lamp, measure upwards 3 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a pencil mark around the corner of the lamp. This will be mark D.

Step 7 Again, turn the lamp clockwise so that the next side is facing you.

Step 8 From the bottom left hand corner of the lamp, measure upward 2.5 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a small pencil mark. This will be mark E.

Step 9 From the bottom left hand corner, again measure upward, this time about 5.5 inches (or desired distance based on your item) and make a small pencil mark. This will be mark F.

Step 10 Now, rotate the lamp so that the first side you were working with is facing you. This is the side marked A, B and C. *Be sure to trim the excess tape so it doesn’t get in the way of laying your next piece.

Step 11 Using a piece of FrogTape, connect the left edge of the tape from the top right hand corner of the lamp to mark C.

Step 12 Using another piece of tape, connect the right edge of the tape with mark A and mark B.

Step 13 Rotate the lamp counterclockwise so the next side of the lamp is facing you. This is the side marked C, B, and D.

Step 14 Using a piece of FrogTape, connect the left edge of the tape with mark C and D.

Step 15 Using another piece of tape, connect the right edge of the tape from mark B to the bottom right corner of the vase.

Step 16 Rotate the lamp clockwise again so the next side of the lamp is facing you. This is the side marked D, F, and E.

Step 17 Using a piece of FrogTape, connect the right edge of the tape with mark D and F.

Step 18 Using another piece of tape, connect the left edge of the tape from bottom left corner of the vase to mark E.

Step 19 Rotate the lamp clockwise one last time so the next side of the lamp is facing you. This is the side marked F, E, and A.

Step 20 Using the right edge of a piece of FrogTape, connect mark F with the top right corner of the lamp.

Step 21 Using another piece of tape, connect the left edge of the tape from mark E to mark A. This should create a ring around the entire lamp.

Step 22 Using the desired paint color, generously coat each side of the lamp between the two pieces of tape.

Step 23 Remove tape slowly, once piece at a time, let cure completely.

Step 24 Display and enjoy.
